Sandip-Rout continues to rule the waves

CHENNAI: Tuning the mast of the sail more straight paid rich rewards for Sandip Jain and S.R. Rout (Army Yachting Node, Mumbai)) as the pair produced a near-perfect performance to once again finish first in all the three races of the Vestas 420 National sailing championship on Thursday.
The subtle changes Sandip made, in consultation with coach Vikas Kapila, helped the pair gain more speed that it needed to race away from the pack. “It (the modifications) helped us to make optimum use of the wind conditions and propel faster,” said Sandip.
Thanks to its strong showing, the Sandip-Rout duo is well set to take the overall title in the open section unless something drastic happens.
Difficult conditions
Eight boats capsized and at least four of them couldn’t complete the races due to moderate wind conditions (12 and 15 knots). Strong gusts of wind with a speed up to 30 kmph and swells that sometimes rose up to six feet also made life difficult for the young sailors.
